Rosemary Salve

When I use rosemary in any recipe I think of the lovely Rosemary Gladstar. She was one of my teachers in making personal care products.

Salve Recipe
1 cup olive oil
½ cup dried rosemary
Clean muslin cloth
¼ cup emulsifying wax or bees wax
15-20 drops essential oils

In a crock-pot with a temperature setting heat the olive oil and dried rosemary for 4-6 hours on very low setting, you could also use a double boiler (do not let the temp exceed 108°F). Strain mixture through muslin or cheese cloth removing all the herb. Put the remaining oil back into the crock-pot or pot on the stove and warm just enough to melt in the emulsifying wax into the oil, remove from heat and add the essential oil to your scent preference. (Test for consistency, *see below, optional) Pour into clean containers and allow to cool and firm up before covering.

*you may need more wax in warmer climates. To test for consistency you can dip a teaspoon into completed mixture and stick in freezer for 10 minutes, remove and rub the salve into your hands, if it is to oily reheat the mixture and add more wax.
